About the event
First Lady Kathryn Burgum has requested artists to decorate ornaments for the Christmas tree at the capitol. The theme being "Lighting the Way" the tree being a beacon of light in dark times. First Lady Kathryn Burgum’s platform of working to end the stigma surrounding the disease of addiction.
The disease of addiction impacts the queer community as well, and the impacts should be noted and recognized on the tree. 2023 brought battle after battle for the queer community of North Dakota, let's work to remind those at the capitol that queer people exist and are not going anywhere.
Let's decorate our own ornaments to show off queer joy during the holidays! Each participant will receive one 3x3 canvas to decorate with art materials provided. They will then have the opportunity to sign a letter to the First Lady talking about how this last year has impacted them, joy is something that can never be taken, and queer people will stand together with their allies as their own beacon of light in a dark world.
